Like most people when Covid-19 hit I was laid off from my “secure” job. Thankfully applying for unemployment was not a headache compared to many people that I know. So, I’m laid off with plenty of free time on my hands after helping my kid with school what is an Entrepreneur to do? I did nothing productive for at least ½ months! I woke up and wasted my day relaxing and playing video games or non-wasted time with my family. Finally having the moment where I realized this is the time I’ve always wanted to work on my own home-based business I jumped into action! Let me tell you, this has been great! My online sales from my other shirt business have surpassed all the sales I had from last year in on two weeks! So, how can you take advantage of this downtime and elevate your brand? Let’s get right into it!
- Create a Schedule: If you don’t have to work or take the kids to school I’m pretty sure that alarm setting is turned off, turn it back on! Instead of sleeping until noon everyday try keeping your old work schedule or modify it as needed. I’ve always hated how I could put in 8 hours at my job just to get home and barely dedicate 2 hours to my own business. Now I’m averaging about 6-8 hours a day working for myself and the result have me feeling accomplished. Remember to set time aside for breaks and lunch, at times I actually break my hours apart so I can do other things around the house like laundry or catching a movie with the family.
- Learn Something New Daily: Since I’ve had more time I have spent a fair amount of time learning new skills and strategies. With a free option like YouTube you can learn the basics for many things you’ve always wanted to get into. Specifically, I’m learning Digital Marketing, Digital Painting and more Content Creation. Remember the important step of applying what you learn! Don’t sit around and horde knowledge start putting the things you learn to use or you’ve essentially wasted hours of learning for nothing.
- Get Organized with Apps: So if you’ve ever had a conversation with me you would know I’m all about Project Management and not wasting time. Here are the apps that have helped me the most during quarantine. Trello is perfect for managing multiple projects or even starting a book club with friends. Once quarantine is lifted and travel is safe I will be using it to plan vacation trips! Toggl is a free time tracking app that I’ve used to track my days. The only thing is I often forget it is on… don’t be like me. It has been vital with keeping me on task and seeing where my time is spent and where I can optimize better!
Stay safe and remember to social distance when you’re out and about. Take this time to enjoy family time again and get that rest that you always needed before this horrible virus changed our lives. For those struggling to get unemployment stay tuned for the next post that I used to help my friends get their unemployment issue taken care of in less than 1 week!
